Out Going Portability (Transferring assistance out of Riverside County)
What is Portability:
"Portability" in the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program refers to the process through which your family can transfer or "port" your rental subsidy when you move to a location outside the jurisdiction of the public housing agency (PHA) that first gave you the voucher when you were selected for the program (the initial PHA).
If you are a current Riverside County Section8 recipient and you would like to port out to another Housing Authority you will need:
- Complete the Portability Request form.
- You must give your landlord a notice to vacate in accordance with your lease and submit a copy to the Housing Authority. (Notices to vacate must include the last date of occupancy.)
- Portability requests will be processed within 72 hours.
- The assigned Housing Specialist will determine if you are eligible to move. For example, the Housing Authority will determine whether you have moved out of your unit in accordance with your lease.
- If you are eligible to move, the initial Housing Authority will issue you a voucher (if it has not done so already).
- The Housing Authority will contact the receiving PHA where you wish to move and send your portability paperwork, including your voucher and other relevant documentation.
You will need to email the completed Portability Request form and a copy of your notice to vacate to the following email: [email protected]
